OUAT 2023 Application Form: The need for the establishment of agricultural universities in India was stressed by the Radhakrishnan University Education Commission in 1949. The Indo-American team, which was established in 1955 and was led by Dr. K.R. Damle, the vice president of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research at the time, proposed an educational model for Indians that was similar to that of the USA’s Land Grant Colleges.
When research, education, and extension programmes in agriculture, animal husbandry, and related sectors were first established, the Planning Commission Committee felt that there was a lack of skilled employees to produce a significant amount of output in agricultural operations. These suggestions eventually resulted in the establishment of agricultural universities to carry out the integration of teaching, research, and extension.
A contract between the Government of India and the University of Missouri to support the state’s agriculture and veterinary colleges was signed in 1956 after Dr. J.H. Longwell of the University of Missouri visited Orissa and spoke with the state government. Dr. Ide P. Trotter joined the Utkal Krishi Mahavidyalaya on April 1, 1960, as a consultant in educational administration after it was decided to construct an agricultural university in Orissa on the United States’ Land Grant Colleges as an example. In 1961, University of Missouri President Elmer Ellies visited the veterinary and agricultural colleges in Orissa and met with the state government to explore establishing the Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology.
